PPP2 : events

I have been to a number of events relating to design this year such as :

CATCH UP -

Catch up is an event that is run by the guys at Catalogue. I really wanted to attend the day time events but both times i had work, but i did make it to the evening shindigs which were a great success. The two nights were very different but both really worth going to.

Below are images from the first event which had amazing entertainment in the format of Matthew the horse reading his poetry, which was incredible, and very funny.

This poetry session the ended with the a rendition of the neighbours theme tune, remixed and sung by Matthew the horse, Supermundane and Jay Cover. The whole event had a real buzz about it. I have so much respect for Ollie and Tom running events like this, it's such a good platform for designers and students to network and socialise. Ollie was a bit confused as to why more people from our course weren't at the event since it's such a good opportunity and I think when they run the events again next year people should really get involved.

Through this event I got to socialise with so many great designers and it just made me really happy that this is the industry that I have decided to go into. Everyone was lovely and willing to talk anyone. And seeing Supermudane dance and rap to jay z was on par with the earlier poetry. Really successful night.

This was the second event where Alexander Lis and Fourfivex came over from Germany. Like I said previously I had to miss the day event due to work, but I went to the evening do again. It was a lot more quiet this time, but that was comparing it to the first event which was chocka. Still I really worth while event to go to got to talk with more designers in the industry which was great.

VILLAGE -

Village book store has been really good for events since it has opened. They are always really popular and filled with a whole range of people from students to people in industry. The above image is from the opening night and that is the back of my head. This was a really popular night where through Ollie Shaw I met many designers Such as Mark who I later found out runs design studio Rabbit hole.

Event showcasing No culture exhibition.

This is the latest event that I went to which was for Catalogue It was another really enjoyable event, and through this event I got invited by Mark from Rabbit hole to go to the shoot your friends event and after party at Duke street, but due to work I couldn't make it. Mark also said he'd show me around the duke street for a studio visit once I've got more time. This just shows how going to these events can build relationships and how beneficially they are.

List of people I have met from the events I have been to this year :

Mark - Rabbit hole
Matthew the horse
Supermundane
fourfivex
Gilse Smith
Jay cover
Tom Pratt - catalogue

And people who I already know but got to socialise with on a design level rather than social

Ollie Shaw - catalogue
Tom , Jamie and Rory - Crowns & owls
Sam Hodgson - The lift agency

Next year and over summer I want to attend more events like these as I have met so many interesting people and it is a way of making connections that can then lead to things like studio visits.
